Material Recovery Facility (Recycling) Tour

November 2, 2005 1 -2 pm

Have you ever wanted to see what happens to materials that you recycle from home? Visit a material recovery facility in Chester where the items collected in central Virginia are sorted before being made into new products. At the facility, you will see:

  • mixed paper being separated from containers by air and gravity
  • steel and tin cans lifted from a conveyor belt by a giant magnet
  • plastic bottles separated out by color and style
  • sorted materials being baled and carried around by the forklift

This is an educational tour that helps citizens understand why CVWMA permits certain items in the recycling bins and requires specific preparation of materials.  This event is free and open to the public, but is limited to adults only.  Children under age 17 are not permitted inside the facility.  Specific attire is also required.  Pre-registration is required.

To register for this event, please send an email with your name, address, phone number and email address to info @ cvwma.com.  You may also call (804) 359-8413 and ask for the Public Information department.
